HIGH ALTITUDE HARVEST: A MOSAIC OF PERSPECTIVES ON MOUNTAIN FARMING

The CBED project in Uttaranchal, India has just published High Altitude Harvest: A Mosaic of Perspectives on Mountain Farming, a result of the International Symposium on Mountain Farming, which was held this past November in Mussoorie, India as part of the United Nations declared year of the mountains.

The ISMF brought together over 150 stakeholders of mountain development from 18 countries with the aim of facilitating cross-fertilization of ideas among people from different mountain regions of the world in the context of mountain farming.

The ideas presented in this book are a result of the convergence of practitioners, academicians, policy-makers, media, and donors from five continents and mountain ranges stretching from the Andes and the Rockies to the Himalayas.

The compilation of papers and presentations from the symposium touches on issues ranging from technical aspects of farming, appropriate technology, indigenous knowledge and technologies, market opportunities and issues of research relevancy. In addition, focus of gender and women's role and rights in mountain farming is a strong element throughout the report.
