(WEP)

Back <

Introduction and Goal:

The Women's Empowerment Program (WEP) was a bi-lateral development program funded by USAID-Nepal and supervised by their SO3 division. USAID Nepal defined empowerment as people, "making their own choices to improve their well being and that of their families and communities." The goal of WEP was to provide women with increased choices, measured through the following impact level indicators:

1) Increased influence over household decision making
2) Increased spending of household income on family well being
3) Increase collective action for social change at the community level

WEP as a whole was made up of two parts:

i) The WEP - Literacy and Economic Participation.

ii) The WEP - Rights, Responsibilities and Advocacy

CECI's role in the WEP:

CECI's role was limited to:

  • The field-level implementation of economic-related interventions for a sub-set of these groups
  • The provision of Technical Assistance on Micro-Finance and Micro-Enterprise to support the related activities of all the program INGO partners
  • The implementation of some key activities on behalf of all the programs INGO partners, namely the initial survey to identify potential economic groups, the Management Information System and the Surveys to determine program impact.
