Introduction:
The Utthan programme aimed to help the most disadvantageous groups in Nepal . Utthan was funded from the British Department for International Development (DFID) and was implemented by the Canadian Centre for International Studies and Cooperation (CECI), in collaboration with Human Rights Organization of Nepal (HURON) and MASDAR (a UK-based consultancy firm).
Goal:
The ultimate goal of Utthan was to improve livelihoods for the poor and disadvantaged in Nepal , which the programme hoped to congregate with five outputs. Firstly, by enhancing the self-initiatives of disadvantaged groups in building their livelihoods assets, simultaneously by improving the understanding of emerging livelihoods opportunities for and key livelihoods constraints faced by the very poor/and or socially excluded. In addition the programme would also install effective two-way mechanisms for sharing information generated by Utthan and others that would improve citizen accountability and promote the uptake of knowledge by key stakeholders and focus on strengthening the monitoring systems to assess livelihoods impacts on the very poor and/or socially excluded.
Objectives:
The purpose of the Utthan programme was to ensure that the "key stakeholders apply better information and knowledge of strategies for economic and social well being of the poor and disadvantaged in Nepal , in their policies, programs and local initiatives" |
