UPAKAR

Community-Based Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Project

Back <

Purpose:

The UPAKAR Project, implemented in partnership with local chapters of the Nepal Red Cross Society (NRCS) and District Public Health Offices (DPHO & DHO), was initiated by CECI in response to the severe flooding that occurred in the central Terai region of Nepal in July 2002. The UPAKAR Project was designed and implemented by local communities with the support of CECI-Nepal and aimed to provide effective post-disaster support to flood victims. Community-based reconstruction and rehabilitation activities focused on improving health conditions and improving or maintaining household and community livelihoods in 20 highly flood-affected Village Development Committees (VDCs) in Dhanusha and Mahottari districts.
