UNITERRA,
the joint initiative of CECI and WUSC began in Nepal in 2004. Through volunteer exchanges, the program aims to develop long-term partnerships in order to strengthen the capacities of participating organizations to better attain development targets outlined in the Millennium Development Goals and poverty reduction strategies of host countries. It also intends to build sustainable multidirectional partnerships between and among Nepali and Canadian stakeholders and enchance the capacity of Nepali organizations to be influential participants in the development of Nepal.

With an objective to focus its activities within certain sectors for better results, UNITERRA has chosen "Agriculture & Rural Development" and "Health and Nutrition" as sectors of intervention in Nepal.

Uniterra Partners in Nepal:

  • FECOFUN (Federation of Community Forestry Users Nepal )- Established in 1995, FECOFUN is an autonomous, non-partisan, socially inclusive, non-profit national federation of forest users which advocates for rights of people from almost all of Nepal's 75 districts. Major activities of FECOFUN include support to forestry user groups in the preparations and revision of constitution and operation plans, NTFP development and income generation, empowerment of women and disadvantaged groups and advocacy on community forestry related issues. It is also managing a radio program and resources centre on community forestry (www.fecofun.org)
  • NEFSCUN (Nepal Federation of Savings and Credit Cooperative Unions Ltd.)- Established in 1988, is the central apex body of community based savings and credit co-operatives in Nepal. The mission of NEFSCUN is to promote, strengthen and provide a forum for Savings and Credit Cooperative Societies (SACCOS) to become viable community based financial institutions by providing value added services such as education, training and financial services on a sustainable basis. NEFSCUN is controlled and owned by its members and guided by the International Credit Unions principles and values. 432 SACCOS with more than 70,000 members from 51 districts are affiliated to NEFSUN (www.nefscun.org.np)

  • CDCAN- Established in 1993, Central Dairy Cooperative Association Ltd. Nepal (CDCAN) is a national level tertiary organization of all the milk producers' cooperatives at primary and secondary levels. CDCAN aims to bring increased economic benefits to milk producers and to contribute to make the country self-reliant in clean and high-quality milk and related products. It provides support to members in the areas of quality milk production, animal caring, animal insurance, breed improvement, milk production, distribution and processing. It also implements policy advocacy activities at the central level to represent the interest of member organizations. Currently, 35 district milk producers' operatives unions (DMPCU) and 1329 milk producers' cooperative societies (MPCS) are affiliated to CDCAN.
  • NTAG- The Technical Assistance Group (TAG) was established in 1993 as a caveat of the National Vitamin A Program to provide technical support during implementation of the program. The success of the NVAP encouraged TAG staff to register as an NGO in 1996 as the Nepali Technical Assistance Group (NTAG) becoming a formal consortium of technical advisors that could provide services to other development programs other than NVAP in Nepal.
    NTAG is a national non-governmental, non-profit service organization established to provide technical assistance to health and nutrition developmental works initiated in Nepal. NTAG is committed to addressing human development needs in partnership with policy leaders, non-governmental and community-based organizations, governmental agencies and international, multilateral and bilateral funding agencies. 
     NTAG is a consortium of technical personnel from various professional backgrounds with a commitment to improve the living standard of the marginalized populace of Nepal with special focus on women and children. NTAG is headquartered in Kathmandu with a branch office in Birendra Bazaar, Saptari.

  • FEDO-The Feminist Dalit Organization is a non-governmental organization dedicated to the rights of Dalit women in Nepal. It actively works to reduce discriminatory perceptions and bring Dalits in development mainstream. FEDO has organized different activities in order to uplift Dalit women's condition and support their social and economic empowerment through educational and literacy programs and income-generating activities.(http://www.fedonepal.org)
