The purpose of the proposed project is to support wide scale participation of community groups, particularly women and the socially excluded, in the process of the election of a constituent assembly (CA) and the adoption of a new constitution for Nepal .
The project will enhance the capacity of civil society organizations at district and local levels (CBOs and their networks) to conduct awareness raising sessions and advocacy campaigns on constitutional issues and democratic rights in a non-partisan manner and promote wider participation of people in the constitutional process. The project proposes mechanisms for communicating inputs from communities to pertinent constitution-making bodies of the Government of Nepal through national level apex bodies, civil society, advocacy groups, media outlets, and others.
The project is planned for implementation in 16 districts of Nepal covering all five development regions of the country and comprising 10 remote hill and 6 Terai districts. This is a fifteen-month project funded by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA).
Federation of Community Forestry Users, Nepal (FECOFUN), as CECI's primary partner, will implement all field activities, including mobilization at the district level (of its membership as well as of other networks), coordination with other projects and programs in the field, facilitation of awareness raising sessions, training's and debates/interactions, etc.
