Methodology:
- Enhance
people's knowledge, responsiveness and preparedness through a
variety of health education activities (street drama, technical
training's, awareness campaigns...).
- Improve general health and sanitation
facilities and conditions through basic infrastructure: Clean
Drinking Water, Family Pit Latrines and Improved Cook Stoves.
- Improve health
of women and children under 5 years old through a curative program
(Nutrition Educational Rehabilitation Program (NERP) and Safe
Motherhood).
Services
Provided:
- Carried out monetization of 1,874.43 MT of Canadian canola oil
in the local market.
- Securing reimbursement of tax and
duties levied by Government of Nepal on import of Canadian canola
oil.
- Signing and management of a Letter
of Agreement with three National Nepali NGOs, each responsible
for programs implementation in the three remote Districts.
- Setting strategies for each project
component: Health Education, Basic Health and Sanitation Infrastructure,
and Curative program.
- Capacity building (design and delivery
of training sessions) and technical support to implementing partners
at central and district levels.
- Conducted annual and semi-annual
review and planning workshops at District level.
Monitoring field implementation and performances.
Results:
- CAN $1.9 million generated for project from sale of canola oil
from two Nepali wholesalers.
- Over 10,200 people directly exposed
to health education activities (including Health Literacy classes
to over 4,463 women).
- More than 60% of the people in
the project area received health education on safe motherhood,
nutrition and personnel hygiene and environmental sanitation.
- 157 Drinking Water Projects, Naulo
and rehabilitation of old DWS were completed, providing clean
drinking water facilities to over 48,200 persons.
- Installation of Improved Smokeless
Stoves placed in over 7,660 households, benefiting 42,901 persons.
- Constructed Improved Pit Latrines
in over 12,380 households, benefiting 69,367 persons.
- Growth monitoring of over 18,800
children conducted in 356 different villages every month.
- Rehabilitation of over 3,560 severely
malnourished children (II and III Degree)
- Over 13,530 children were de-wormed
by medicine and over 5,120 children got food support as medicines.
- Enhance the knowledge of more than
14,410 women and 1,990 men on Safe Motherhood.
- Training on Traditional Birth Attendance
was extended to 74 women who were responsible for carrying out
normal delivery, providing iron folic tablet and Clean Health
Delivery Kit.
- 1,838 women got access to Safe
Delivery Kit.
- Reduced morbidity rate of the targeted
population due to diarrhea diseases by 23%.
- Reduced morbidity rate of the targeted
population due to respiratory infections by 12%.
- Reduced mortality of the children
under five, due to protein-energy malnutrition by 9%.
